I’ve had many executives who have come to me, desperate to improve their English pronunciation, after embarrassing moments while talking to someone.
For example, I had a student who accidentally insulted his girlfriend by pronouncing “beach” with a short “i” sound instead of the long “e” sound.
One student went to the store for baking flour and asked where the “floor” was. He realized he had made a mistake when the worker continued to point to the ground.
Another student knew she needed to improve her pronunciation when she went to the store to buy a calendar for the upcoming year and was directed to the kitchen supplies section for a colander (a bowl with holes for straining)!
These are just a few examples of many. As funny as they may seem now, they were very embarrassing and frustrating experiences at the time.
When we worked together, we first focused on identifying their specific pronunciation weaknesses and started addressing them immediately. Soon, they were able to improve those areas of difficulty and eventually look back and laugh at their previous situations.
Perhaps you haven’t had an experience quite like these, but you know that your pronunciation is holding you back.
Maybe you’ve given a presentation and someone has asked you to repeat yourself because you’re putting the stress on the wrong syllable.
You may have found yourself holding back in important meetings and not contributing as much as you would like because you wanted to avoid an embarrassing situation.
It’s time to take action and improve the areas of English that you struggle with the most.
Message me today to book a meeting so we can talk about your current situation and discuss your next steps to achieve the English communication skills you need.
